Can Anxiety Cause Fatigue And Neck Pain?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 May 2014
Question: Recently I went through a phase of lot of anxiety and stress fearing an STD infection, I went to a doctor multiple times who checked my lymph nodes by pressing on them, I also had a physical done where everything came out fine except for the cholesterol thing, ever since that I feel that I am getting tired during the afternoons and feel some pain in the neck ( may be due to pressing by the doctor and constant checking from me ), however good I seem in the morning, I get deflated in the afternoon ( feel very tired ) . my BP is arounf 130/78 , Is this anxiety or something else, because the anxiety I had gone through is by far the worst in my whole life?
I forgot to add that I lost a lot of weight because of the anxiety, but ever since I realized that I hadnt done anything wrong I started eating well and I started to gain weight gradually, but this is something which I am worried about. I wanted to add that I have become very much of a hypochondriac due to the recent experiences.

Brief Answer:
Please, talk yourself out of negative thoughts

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

i am so sorry to hear about all the health difficulties that you have experienced. I am however happy and optimistic because you still demonstrate great interest in obtaining more health information and a solution to your problem.

From the information you have provided, there is really no alarming red flag that needs urgent attention or poses great challenge to current management. You are actually one of the few patients who has got very little to worry about as concerns the health status. If you actually condition yourself to feel and act as a sick person, you would work very hard to make right that feeling and not prove yourself wrong. When you must have proven yourself right, you reinforce this notion and it gets even stronger and becomes even a bigger problem to address. This seem to be the circle that you now find yourself into.

Talk yourself out of it. Why should I be sick only at particular times of the day? This is not due to an organ that doesn't work well otherwise it would have been a day long affair and not intermittent. This can only be due to conditions like the state of our mind and the environment. These should be things that you can change. Tell yourself it is okay and despise every negative thought that crawls into your head to corrupt a sound stat of mind and implant an unreal illness that in the long run be very disastrous to your health. The fact that you had a back massage doesn't mean you would for sure have an STD. Stop worrying about this and let symptoms set in if there was really anything of concern. The information you have provided is not in support of any high chances of a possible transmission.

In all, I have reviewed the information you have provided and there is very little to be worried about. Treat the hypercholesterolmia and monitor your blood pressure to see when it hits numbers that require medications. For now, regular moderate exercise, minimal salt intake and positive state of mind would help you. Anxiety doesn't seem too evident for now.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarification if needed. Thanks for using our services.

Thanks doc, I appreciate you answer. Its been 4 weeks since my encounter and I haven't had any symptoms but sometimes I do get nervous thinking about any symptoms, initially I poked around my lymph nodes to check if they have enlarged , I had been to local doctor twice had her check out them ( once recently ) and she wasnt able to find anything. She pressed around that place more than once, even had her intern poke around to check for any enlargements, but there was nothing in particular, Its only when I think about them, I start to feel pain there ( no enlargement or any symptoms related to enlargement again ) , I feel restless because its hard to have no answer when these kinda symptoms creep in. One thing, I found that when I get along with people and talk I tend to loose these feelings and I start to feel better.
I was initially scared of HIV and herpes , but none of the symptoms concerned to either of the STDs have creeped in yet, but I honestly think that I havent done anything which would cause any infection. Do you think I still have some chance of contracting any disease?

Brief Answer:
You did almost nothing and the risk~0

Detailed Answer:
If sexual infections were to be this easily transmitted, I am pretty sure that we would have all had them. This is just to say the risk of contracting HIV/Herpes from this act is almost negligible. You should not be too worried about this but be double cautious during future sexual encounters.

You can tell you are a major contributor to your ill health. It is really weighing heavily on you and you should be able to control them. I am happy you have already identified some of the things that can help you stay away from constantly thinking about what transpired. I encourage you to do more of that.

Up to this point, nothing concerning has been identified. I don't think this would change in future. The chances of an infection, be it now or in future is very small.

I wish you well. Thanks and ask for clarifications if need be.

Thank you Doctor once again, I am currently in the process of working out and reducing my bad cholesterol content and hopefully that will help me be in shape and keep away the bad thoughts, Should I be monitoring my BP and sending you the readings at different times of the day?
I think I have never been so worried about my health, be it be STDs or cholesterol or fat problems, your help would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Yes, send me your BP values!

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for following up with me.

I will like you to take you blood pressure 3times in a day and send the readings to me. I will take a look at time and provide more information whether there is something that we should be doing different at this time.

I am happy with the exercises you are doing. Beside helping with the cholesterol and mindset, it also puts the body in a better state of health. I encourage you to continue with this.

I hope this helps. I wish you well and hope to look at the numbers together with you.

Hello Doc,

2 days ago I had seen a canker sore on my tongue ( at least I thought it was a canker sore ) because I was very low on B12 , D vitamins and had gone through some stress, I was taking B12 tablets and saw it go low in 2 days , but I also had a small bump on the inner cheeks with white head which I thought is another canker sore, I am assuming its not oral herpes because I couldnt pop it, its just a hard bump with little white head, its pains when I run my tongue over it . I also have small red colored bump in my inner throat which scared me off but I am not having any pain or discomfort due to it but I am still worried what it could be , I am attaching the pics, kindly let me know what you think.
I gotto assert that the cankers sore responded well to my gel and B vitamin tablets and also I have had them in the past too.

Thanks for uploading the pictures!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for uploading the pictures again.

I have reviewed the images and there is non finding to support the diagnosis of oral herpes. I am also happy to hear that they are slowly reducing in size. I will recommend that you do nothing beyond observing as they would mostly likely regress with time.

If anything else should be of concern, please do not hesitate to contact me. I wish you well.
