Can Amino Supplements Be Taken Along With Depakote And Lamictal?

Question: hello! I have to wait to see my new psychiatrist till January 4th and I really need some input. Back in 1996 I had just given birth to my second child. My ex-husband cheated on me and had a baby with the other woman. Well, I believe I only had post partum depression and of course was a little messed up from all of that, I mean who wouldn't be?.So I saw a psychologist for the depression and she diagnosed me as having cyclothymic disorder. Which then turned into being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I was put on lithium and antidepressants. Then switched to depakote and so many other antidepressant I couldn't even name them all. I am now taking 1000mg of depakote a day and 50mg of lamictal with no antidepressants at all. I feel that I was put on all of this medication needlessly and have started to go the natural route. I've added GABA,
tryptophan, phenalaline and taurine to all of this. My pharmacists says that nothing natural I'm taking will interfere with my medicine. Does anyone there know anything about all of this? I truly need to stop poisoning my body with all of these meds. I will not discontinue my meds I just would like a second opinion. Thank you for your time. Very worried.

Brief Answer:
Your pharmacist is right

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Health care magic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to make it clear that so called natural supplements and medications have many similarities which includes drug to food and food to drug interaction. Your pharmacist is right in saying because even with natural supplements we are trying to make fifferent set of equilabrium in body.

In regard to medications (depakote and lamictal), yes they are poison at certain limits but the dosage which you get in prescription is never a poison. The prescription dose causes more benefits than the harms and meets the critetia of medication and not poison.

I understand that there is ftustration of regular medicine intake but they are intended to help you.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.

Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Yes you are right in interpreting but I would like to put a word of cautuon. Never exceed the recommended intake by your dietician as that may interfare with functioning of medications.

I hope this clarifies.
Thanks and regards.
