Can A Patient Come Breathing On His Own In C3 Or C4 Lesions?
Question: Can you come in the hospital breathing on your own with a C3 or C4 spinal injury?

Answer to your question is Yes-a patient may come breathing on his own in C3 or C4 lesions.Breathing is impaired more in C3 lesions and patient may be ventilator dependent.However in C4 lesions,a patient may be able to breath of his own.
Further,even for C3 lesions,it should not be an absolute statement that 'patient will never have spontaneous breathing'.Sometimes they may.However,chances are less as nerve roots supplying their breathing muscles are affected.

my sister was talking and everything when she came in and she has been in the hospital for a month now and now has pneumonia and still on a ventilator and the doctors told my mother that she has a C4 spinal cord injury. Her heart has stopped or slowed to a stop twice and her blood pressure has peaked to 213/97 should we try to take her to a different hospital for a different opinion or even treatment in professional opinion?
