Can A Lower Dosage Of Synthroid Cause Side Effects Of Fatigue, Foggy-brain, And Lethargy?

Question: Question: Can a lower dosage of 50 mcgs Synthroid cause side effects of fatigue, foggy-brain, and somewhat lethargic? In Dec. 2017 my Synthroid dosage was reduced from 200 mcgs to 175 mcgs. My internist of over 26 yrs has recently retired. Three weeks ago I misplaced the current meds and the refill cannot be made before XXXXXXX 4th. To cover me for the few weeks until then, I cut the 200 mcgs into approximately 150 mcgs (I couldn't split the last 50 mcgs due to its tiny size). My symptoms take me back to when I first was diagnosed with Hoshimoto's. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are due to lower synthyroid dose

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The fatigue, lethargy and foggy brain are suggestive that you are not receiving adequate dose of synthroid and you are being pushed to hypothyroid state. It is likely that you need the original 200 mcg dose of synthroid.
You can try increasing the dose to 175 mcg as doctor suggested. Please follow up with your pharmacy to refill the prescription earlier than XXXXXXX 4th. If you still feel lethargic few days after increasing the dose to 175 mcg, it is best to increase the dose back to 200 mcg and keep monitoring your thyroid function.
