I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

There is no direct connection between severe pyelonephritis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy after 70 years.

But, severe pyelonephritis may lead to secondary arterial hypertension, which if uncontrolled for many years can lead to chronic changes in the heart compatible with Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

This is the only possible connection between these disorders, because the main cause of Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at this age, is uncontrolled arterial hypertension.

I had bizarre symptoms for many years starting at age 18, that I can remember. those continued all thru adulthood. There were no diagnosis until age 60, after a work-up at Mayo Clinic. I did not ever remember the pyelonephritis until I read it 'on line' and it triggered the memory. I don't know if there is Arterial Hypertension? I take Atenelol for a sometimes rapid heart beat, but I do not have high blood pressure.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You should know that there are many causes underlying hypertrophic cardiomyopathy such as: genetics, increased sympathetic nervous system activity, coronary artery disease, etc..

So, many causes may lead to this disorder.

I don't think that there is any direct connection between hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and your past pyelonephritis because you have never had increased blood pressure values.
