Question: Hi,
My 1 year old is sweating while playing and feeding (not too much but considerably). Her thyroid levels were normal during neonatal test conducted immediately after birth. Are there chances of her getting thyroid disorder since i had pregnancy induced hypothyroidism which continued after delivery and before three months the hypothyroidism got converted to hyper before 3 months and am off drugs now.. can my daughter get acquired thyroidism in a year as test results were normal immediately after birth. What woulf be the symptoms of thyroid disorders in babies? She is active playful with healthy body weight..

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to have thyroid disorder at this age if previous report is normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for asking on this platform

Thyroid disorder can be there since birth(failure of development of thyroid gland) or it develops later around adolescence/adulthood or in older age(due to secondary damage).
It is uncommon to have thyroid disorder at this age if previous report at the time of neonatal screening is normal.
There can be hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
The symptoms of hypothyroidism are poor appetite, poor growth, decreased activity, thick luster less skin, excessive sensitivity to cold etc. While symptoms of hyperthyroidism are excessive sweating, rapid heart beat, poor weight gain in spite of increased appetite, excessive sensitivity to warm etc.
Although the chances are very less in this age particularly if there are no significant symptoms still you can consult your pediatrician and get a thyroid profile done for your child to alleviate your anxiety.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
