Brief Answer:
Shingles is also treated with valacyclovir

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

Valacyclovir is used for several different infections including genital herpes, cold sores and for shingles. Valacyclovir is most commonly used for the treatment of genital herpes in its acute phase and also for suppression. Also during an acute shingles outbreak which is caused by the chicken pox virus. It helps reduce the pain and reduce the risk of pain after shingles.

You mention back sores and rash which sounds like you have shingles. Shingles is caused by the chicken pox virus growing along nerve roots and will give severe pain followed by a blister rash in the area of the pain. If caught early with valacyclovir will reduce the pain and help prevent pain after the shingles resolve.

For any other condition it is not approved.
