Question: Is it safe to give Vacha (Acorus Calamus) to kids of 2.5 year age? Can it be given along with any allopathy or homeopathy medicines?
How much dosage should be given and is there any commercially available medicine with this ingredient?

As vacha is traditionally used in Ayurveda for many indications. it got many medicinal values. it improves speech,brain function and act as a anti convulsion medicine.
usually vacha was not used as a single drug in pediatric as well as adult medicine. it comes in combination with other herbs and minerals.
depends on the disease vacha proportion will differ.

Hi Dr. Thanks for response.
My son is struggling with development delays including speech. He is under medication for Infantil Spasms that started at the age of 8-9 months. Now his spasms / fits are some what under control, but his development is delayed. Speech is delayed. He has low immunity. Catches cold and fever very often. He is hard working and always finishes the task assigned to him once he gets interested in the task. We need as much help as possible to enable speech for him as that would automatically help him develop other skills.

As general development delay without any underlying cause like any genetic and congenital disorder can be well managed in ayurveda.because cerebral palsy and other neuro muscular problems are well managed in ayurveda. I will not promise for cure of the condition but the quality of the life will improve in significant way.
As your primary concern of Speech problem will not rectify by only administering vacha as you expect.
Because the cause for his speech problem is developmental delay. And other recurrent infection like cold and cough is also because of the same.
I advise you to consult an ayurvedic physician who is expert in panchakarma in your near by locality.
As developmental delay is treated in early part of your life will improve his quality of life.
Many proven studies shows panchakarma along with certain internal medication for brain stimulant and immune modulating drugs will help in treating the developmental delay as well as associated symptoms like speech delay and other problems.
Kindly visit an ayurvedic physician at the earliest for the betterment of your child.
