Can Tegretol Cause Tremors?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Dec 2016
Question: I have been prescribed tegretol because my body shakes uncontrollably 90% of the time. It is not shaking right now and has been calm all day. Should I start this medicine when symptoms are not present? I do not experience seizures.

Brief Answer:
Considerations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the query.

If you have had significant and persistent tremors in the past it would still be reasonable to start the tegretol to see if this continues to control your symptoms.

You can observe your symptoms after a couple of weeks to see if the tegretol is having a significant impact. If not your doctor may consider an alternate medication.

Again for now it would be reasonable to follow your doctors suggestion to try the tegretol for a trial period.

Sincerely,

Dr Galamaga
