Can Soma And Alcohol Be Taken Together?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 May 2014
Question: Medication taken: 1 levocitrizine (noon, for allergies) 2 pumps each nostril prescription nasal steroid (630pm, for allergies) 1 Soma (830pm, neck/shoulder pain)

My question is regarding Soma and alcohol consumption.

I just began taking Soma (250mg) 5 days ago. Around 630 pm, I had about half a glass (probably like 6 oz) of alcoholic cider - I generally don't drink but the small amount didn't seem to affect me.

I ate afterward and took the Soma a couple hours later. Soma makes me tired so I went to sleep around 930/10. I woke up at 10:45 with terrible diarrhea and acid reflux. Since then I have been unable to sleep, nauseous and my throat seems somewhat closed.

I know that with Soma overdoses or mixing Soma and alcohol can lead to respiratory depression. Would I be at risk of that with such a small amount of alcohol since it is clearly affecting me negatively?

I feel much better now than I did when I woke up at 10:45 (about 2 hours ago) - I imagine because I got a lot of it out of my system. But am still worried to try to sleep because of the respiratory concerns.

Brief Answer:
Soma&alcohol-a dangerous combination...

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

It was a bad idea mixing up Soma and alcohol. Soma contains the active ingredient carisoprodol, which is a muscle relaxant. When used together with alcohol might cause brain depression (slowing brain's activities).

As the worst has passed, you might have less symptoms now, which will be gradually improving. However, you should not take alcohol while taking XXXXXXX or to overdose it. Take it exactly as directed by your doctor to prevent undesirable effects.

Hope it was of help! Let me know if you have further queries!
