Question: i have been prescribed Riconia lp for a period of 10 days by an ENT doctor
this is alongwith COGNIX PLUS for impaired hearing.

Explanation for your question.
Deafness or hearing loss in your age could be due to 1. senile deafness (seen after 60 years). 2. Decreased blood supply to ear apparatus (inner ear, hearing nerve and brain) secondary to hypertension, diabetes or stroke.
Riconia is multivitamin + mineral combination, is a nutrient for hearing nerve, where as COGNIX PLUS ( Piracetam + Ginkgo biloba + Vinpocetine ) helps in improvement of micro circulation of cochlea (inner ear) and brain. As such, in cases of established hearing loss (senile deafness due to nerve degeneration) this combination will not help. In those patients, hearing aids are the treatment of choice.

Dear Doc,
Thank you for the prompt and clear reply.
I am concerned as there are side effects to this medication how do i counter
them and the doc did tell me that he was putting me on a milder dose how long
would this medication have to continue.Till the buzzing sound
in the ear goes as now i do not feel any giddiness or will it have to be tapered
down.
Also if i go swimming will it have any adverse effect on my ear.

Yes. Side effects (sleep disturbances, dizziness, excitement, insomnia, somnolence, wt gain) are common and tapering regimen are required in long term usage. You need to re-consult your ent surgeon before stopping them and withhold swimming untill you are free from buzzing sounds and giddiness.
