Question: HI Doctor, I have 3+ years kid and I am giving her Relent Syrup from last 3 days for having cold and now from yesterday she is having bit productive cough though not much but she is coughing in regular intervals. Can I give Piriton CS also with Relent or Relent is not required and she has reduced cold now and running nose and ears has been stopped. Kindly suggest!! Yesterday night also she has vomited once.

Thanks,

Brief Answer:
I would suggest you to continue Relent and and ascoril

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

The most common cause of cough and cold in this age is some viral infection. In most of the cases it can be managed well with conservative treatment.
Relent contains cetrizine(an antiallergic) and ambroxol(a mucolytic, mucus thinning agent).Asoril contains terbutaline(a bronchodilator which relieves airway spasm)bromhexin, guaphenesin and menthol(all these are soothening agent and helps in thinning and clearing the mucus).
Both these medications are good for managing cough and cold in this age.
Now you are asking about Piriton CS.It contains chlorpheniramine(an antiallergic) and dextromethorphan(a cough suppressing agent).
I won't recommend you to use Piriton as you are already using Relent which contains cetrizine and is a good antiallergic.Apart from this Dextromethorphan should not be used in children as it is a cough suppressing agent and the mucus gets dried, which is not good.
Once or twice occasional vomiting can occur during viral cough and cold.
I won't get worried if vomiting is not too frequent, child is active, accepting feeds well and there is no respiratory distress.
I suggest you to continue giving Relent and ascoril. It may take another 3-5 days to get relieve from cough.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
Wishing for you child's speedy recovery.
Thanks and regards
