Can PPIs Like Nexium Cause Heart PACs ?
Question: Can PPIs like NEXIUM, which I have been taking( 40md/day) for about 5 years, cause heart PACs ?
I had concluded that my PACs were a reaction MSG, and have been taking INDERAL ( 10mg as needed) to stop the PACs when I unexpectedly ate something containing MSG.
I had been MSG free for the past 5 months. Nevertheless, for the past week I have taken as much as 40 mg/ day and still can not stop the PACs. For about 2 days now, I stopped taking NEXIUM and today the PACs significantly reduced from 1 to 2 PACs per breath to 1 to 2 PACs per hour and they continue to decrease as the time off NEXIUM extends beyond 48 hours.
Could NEXIUM be the current cause of my PACs?

I can very well understand your concern about the PAC arising out of use of pantoprazole for a long time.
Pantoprazole causing PAC is reported to be 0.129%. Out of all patients on pantroprazole who report side effects, about 20% have arrhythmia which may or may not be PAC.
Hence we can conclude that in your case pantoprazole is the culprit.
However we want to rule out other causes of PAC as well. These could be:
1) Underlying COPD
2) Excessive caffeine/ stimulant intake
3) Theoplylline/ deriphylline group of drugs
4) Digoxin toxicity.
5) During radio ablation, there could be an induced radio damage to the atrial muscles which may send out APC.
