Brief Answer:
Oxycodone should be avoided; if severe pain, can take 1 dose tonight only.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

It would be better to treat your pain with other pain medications as oxycodone and other narcotics can cause the gall bladder to not work properly while the medicine is in your system.

If you are in a very great deal of pain right now, and you will be having your gall bladder surgically removed soon and you have no other pain medications to take tonight, then taking 1 dose of oxycodone just to get you by will likely be ok.

However, tomorrow, talk with your doctor about other options that are safe for you until you have your gall bladder removed. If your kidney function is normal and you have no stomach problems from NSAIDs, you can may be able to take ibuprofen, up to 600 mg up to three times/day. Other NSAIDs may be chosen instead of ibuprofen too. Take after you have food in your stomach so that it doesn't irritate your stomach.

If you know for sure that you have gall stones (per ultrasound or other diagnosis), the definitive treatment is to have the gall bladder surgically removed.

I hope this answers your question.
