Can Mucolite Drops Be Given For Cold And Cough?

Question: hi

My boy is 1 month 2 days old. He is suffering from cold and cough. The local pediatrician has recommended mucolite drops. Could you confirm if we could go ahead and use the drops?

Mucolite contains Amboxol(a mucus thinning agent).It is very safe and can be given in any age group.Its mucolytic agent helps in relieving the cough.
So you can give the mucolite drops safely to the baby.
I would suggest you to put nasal saline drop in 1-2 drops in each nostril 4-5 times a day to relieve the nasal blockage.It is also very safe.Blocked nose due to cold can affect the feed.It is better to put the saline drop just before feed.
Watch for any signs of breathing problem or poor feeding.If you notice any consult your pediatrician.
