Posted on Sat, 8 Aug 2015
Question: Some of my friends recommended me to have EVIMECTIN-A (Ivermectin & Albendazole Tablets) as it is good for killing worms or for just cleaning your stomach. They said you can have 1 tablet in 6 months, as mostly we eat outside food.

I do not have any worms as such. But is it good to have this. Can i have this

Brief Answer:
Has no effect in cleaning the stomach but are broad spectrum anti worm meds

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
Both Ivermectin and Albendazole are broad spectrum antihelminthics. They are used to treat when you have different kind of worms.
They have no effect in routine cleaning of the stomach.
Ivermectin can have serious side effects and I would not advise you to take it without proper indication.
Albendazole is relatively safer . However it is more scientific to do a stool examination and take it only if there are worms or their ova in it.

Best wishes,

Dr noble,

Thank you so much for the reply. So you suggest I should not take this specific medicine which I have mentioned?..

Second can you recommend any medicine for stomach cleaning which I can take in 6 months and has no side efeects?

I do not have worms and all but just thought as I eat outside so would be good to clean stomach once au while

Brief Answer:
An osmotic laxative safer

Detailed Answer:
It used to be a common practice in the past to clean the gut with purgative like Castor oil. No benefit has been shown by scientific studies for this practice. If you would like to flush out your GI tract once in a while, it would be safer to use an osmotic laxative like Movicol rather than any irritant purgative like Castor oil or tablets.
Take care,
