Can I Manage Varicose Veins By Wearing The Compression Socks And Also Whether There Is Any Problem For Going By Flight

Question: Hello Doctor, I had undergone two surgeries on left knee for broken patella first one in March 2021 and second one in Dec 2021. Later I found discolouration near left ankle and subsequently did a doppler scan of the leg, reports of which are attached. The Doctor has advised some Laser / Wire procedure to treat varicose veins on the Left leg. Please explain if the procedure needs to be done or can I manage by wearing the Compression socks and also whether there is any problem for going by Flight (4 to 5 Hrs) without doing the treatment.

Brief Answer:
Surgery would be the better choice

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
There is obvious varicose veins are there in your leg which are nothing but dilated and tortuous vessels.
Surgery will be the treatment of choice which is not done using LASER or RFA(Radiofrequency ablation).
It is not an emergency procedure and you can very well wait few months.
You can travel in a flight even though there is theoretical risk of venous embolism (blood clot formation in the dilated veins) you can wear compressive stocking and try to move around or move your limbs frequently.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks.
