Question: Can I smoke weed/marijuana or drink alcohol while taking 1000mg of Acetazolamide? I have IIH just for your information.

You should not use marijuana/alcohol while on acetazolamide.

Hello,

Acetazolamide itself may impair alertness and/or physical coordination, so, it should be avoided simultaneous use with other substances that alter the alertness including marijuana and alcohol.

So, you cannot smoke marijuana or use alcohol while using acetazolamide.

How about if I stopped taking Acetazolamide? Will it be ok to then drink alcohol or smoke marijuana/weed?

And if so, how long after I stop taking the medicine can I do so?

You understand that I as a licensed Doctor should discourage you to use marijuana or alcohol.

However, if you will use alcohol, it is necessary to stop acetazolamide at least for two days.

Discuss with your Doctor if you decide to stop acetazolamide.
