Can HIV Be Contracted Through Contact With An Open Sore On The Genitals?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Oct 2017
Question: i am freaking out. i had sex earlier tonight and i noticed that the condom did not cover all the way to the base of my penis. around a month and 1/2 ago, a lady accidentaly cut me on my penis. It was healed and then just recently, it appears to have opened up a little as you can see in the pic. Although i wore a condom, her vaginal fluids i am sure came in contact with the uncovered base of my penis and rubbed against this cut, sore or whatever you want to call it. SHould i worry about contracting HIV?

Brief Answer:
I think yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

If you are sure that vaginal fluids of that lady contacted the raw surface over penis I think you need to worry about contracting HIV.

I am not aware about HIV status of lady and I think post exposure prophylaxis should be taken if the time elapsed is less than 24 hours since last night intercourse.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.

hello. are there any side effects to taking the post exposure prophylaxis? i just had this sex 4 hours ago. How long do i have? also, i wanted to say that the item on my penis is not an open cut...its almost like a bump, but no open wound. does this make any difference as opposed to an obvious open wound. I am trying to send you a pic but i am unable to download. is there any way i can email it to you?

Brief Answer:
Yes it makes difference

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

In case there is no open wound the possibility of HIV transmission is negligible even if your partner was positive.

However I like to suggest that it is better to see a local practitioner so he can examine the affected area and guide you conclusively.

Regarding the side effects of PEP, yes there are side effects but the risk benefit ratio favours their use as HIV is a big problem in compare to medication side effects.

I hope this assists you further.
Thanks again.
