Can Dopamine And St.John's Wort Be Taken Together?

default
Posted on Thu, 22 Sep 2016
Question: I am on st john's wort. a functional medicine dr just told me to take dopatone, key ingredient is mucuna pruriens, a dopamine precursor.
I am concerned about the things I'm reading online about seratonin and dopamine and st john's wort. Not sure if the two are safe together.

Also I take a very small dose of trazodone at night to sleep. Ok to add this to the mix (25 mgs)?

I know you're not supposed to take an SSRI with St john's wort. Dopatone Active is the full name of the supplement, which is a blend of things, made by Apex Energetics. The doctor(chiropractor who specializes in functional medicine, said this was a very high end supplement. He has a good reputation.

Brief Answer:
Hello. You shouldn't take both of them together

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Taken together the two supplements can cause serotonin syndrome--a serious condition. You need to discuss this with a medical doctor rather than a chiropractor. Please let me know if you need any more information.
