Brief Answer:
Yes it could happen

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

Some of us have different kind of personality and have tendency for novelty seeking. The research has shown that other than genetic factors some traits of personality and environment are responsible for development of addiction.

It is also shown by research that individuals who developed one or another kind of addiction, have high tendency for different kind of addiction.
Once there is triggering of dopamine release by one or another addictive substance our mind consciously or unconsciously search for other means of pleasure leading to development of different kind of dependence.

It is commonly advised that avoid any substance which has tendency to develop addiction or dependence. Since the person in question had history of alcohol dependence it is highly recommend to take codeine with at most care and under proper medical supervision.

I must acknowledge that with regulated prescription and short term medical use of codeine have very low risk for alcohol or food addiction if the instructions over prescription are followed up properly.

'Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help".
Thanks
