Question: My daughter is taking Bactrim and Kevlex, and has developed a light rash on her arm. I think this is a common side effect but wanted to make sure. Is is okay for her to take Benadryl to help with the rash?

Brief Answer:
benadryl is fine, if allergic reaction, med need to be discontinued

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

A rash can sometimes occur as a side effect of taking medication, particularly antibiotics.

Sometimes the rash is an indication that the person is allergic to the medication. If that is the case, then it needs to be stopped because the allergic reaction can worsen.

Benadryl or any other antihistamine is fine to use for the rash but it may be best to also speak to her doctor to see if the medication needs to be altered. If based on looking at it, he or she believes it is an allergic reaction (which would respond to benadryl), then needs an alternative

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
