Can Augmentin, Cephalexin And Flagyl Be Taken Together?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: Hi, had delivery with now one week baby and breastfeeding. Perineal tear and GP gave antibiotics. She gave augmentin duo (one tablet twice a day), cephalexin 500mg three times a day and flagyl 200mg three times a day. Just wondering is it safe to take all three antibiotics at the same time? Is it going to be too much for the baby?

Brief Answer:
Either cephalexin or augmentin

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.Ideally, you need to take one of the two antibiotics, either augmentin or cephalexin, as both has almost similar action. Flagyl has to be taken separately. All the antibiotics are safe for the baby while breastfeeding.

O good thing I checked because I've already taken one of each of those antibiotics. I will check with my GP in the morning which one I should stop taking out of the augmentin and cephalexin. Is this going to be an issue that I've taken them together?

No problem

Hi dear, thanks for responding. Taking both the antibiotics together once will not cause any problem, however do consult your doctor to have one most appropriate.
