It will prevent only certain bacterial infection but is not drug of choice. It has no effect on viral infection like herpes, HIV, SYPHILIS, HCV, HBsAg, etc. You need to get investigation done to rule out infection.

Hi

There are no drugs to prevent viral infection except post exposure prophylaxis for HIV which must be taken within 72 hours. Infection like chlamydia or gonorrhea treatment with azithromycin 500 mg once is recommended for 2 weeks.

Hi

There are no medicines to absolutely prevent STD related viral infections. The patients who have high risk of HIV are advised post exposure prophylaxis with antiretroviral agents Truvada- the brand name for the medication emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate for daily use as a pre-exposure prophylaxis for 28 days is advised. It will only lower the risk of infection but not absolute.
