Besides Herpes What Other Infection Is Spread Via Kissing?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: Luck has been really hard on me. I recently attended my friends bachelor party in china as a formality and what happened was that there was a lady in skimpy attire who just came and kissed me on my mouth for 10 seconds and either spat her drink in my mouth which was mixed with saliva or it was her saliva enitrely I have no clue, I quickly lubricated it with the saliva in my mouth and swallowed it as I didnt want it to linger in my mouth and gulped beer after that thought it would kill the bacteria  .I was really annoyed and in her defence she was a lady and made a mistake .later I discovered she was a Commercial Sex worker and it was doomsday for me.I am 24 years of age and I am already engaged with a beautiful girl whose heart I dont intend to break but though it was no fault of mine I owned up.its been about 5 months since the exposure I have been really upset and I do not want to infect my partner due to a mistake of mine and I feel terrible.ive spent countless hours on the internet researching what can I contract from saliva and it boiled down to HPV.When I check forums all they say is that "oral HPV is asymptomatic and that all SEXUALLY ACTIVE people will get it one day or another."I respect that but the problem is I have just had one sexual partner who is my fiance and so has she.she hasnt been with anyone else nor have I And we both are extremely health concious so I wouldnt want this exposre to ruin it.It all boiled down to one thing that I wanted to get tested so again after countless hours of research I found a medical centre in my country which would actually do an oral test. This I found after 2.5 months.It was the oral hpv swab test via dna PCR and thats the best what they have here (mumbai).IT came negative for all strains including HPV 16.That did put great ease to my worries but once more a curved ball was thrown at me.The doctor said 2 things that it is negative as of NOW and that the oral brush test isnt as accurate as the oral rinse test that is availible abroad.Again I was back to square one didnt know what to do thus I am knocking your door to ask you:

1) is this a reliable test

2) what are the odds of me contracting HPV assuming it was only saliva in her mouth

3) besides herpes what else can I aquire via kissing like ebv most of us have it.what about cmv? .I want to get tested for all possibilities.
Kindly assist me by providing a DETAILED answer.

Brief Answer:
Infection due to kissing

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic,
I understand your anxiety about contracting an infection and transmitting it to your partner. But in your case you don't have to worry about anything. HPV should be the least of your concerns. Its been 5 months and you have not developed herpes or a wart. So don't bother and don't worry. You are clean. Please do not do any oral rinse test either as the result is not going to change management.

You may do an HIV, HBsAg test and CMV IgG and IgM test. If these are negative just move on, spend quality time with your fiance without any feeling of guilt. Hope this helped,
Take care.

Thanks.sorry but it shows your a dermatologist. I opted for a GP to understand my problem.Anyways I am worried about HPV strain 16 for my concern
That can be transmitted via french kissing.i have not kissed more that 30 seconds .its as if she spat infected water along with saliva of about 10 ml in my mouth.Thats what's really bothering me.Because she is a csw obviously she's had many partners. My main concerns are as follows:
1) If a person has many partners is it possible to have many active infections in the mouth or does it go dormant even after having many partners.
2) I conducted an oral swab for HPV and it came negative for all strains so can it be reliable.
3) I might conduct an oral rinse test for my mental satisfaction.
4) I want to know what other infections can spread via saliva as when I returned I acquired an extremely horrible throat ache which had strips of blood present in it.lindly assist me for the same.i felt fatigue, sensitivity to light and many floaters. Now also I am experiencing a clogged throat.
If my question can't be answered by you please help me by getting this answered by a GP.please it's a request as it's urgent.I want to know what tests to conduct .Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Clarifications to query

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
I find it amusing that you want a GP's opinion when a Specialist is answering your question.
1. A person with multiple partners can have many active infections and they can remain dormant as well. For eg: She might be suffering from herpes labialis, but she will transmit it only if she has active lesions on her lips while kissing. She might have HIV or HBsAg. But the amount of virus in saliva is very less and the chance of transmission is negligible if your skin and mucous membrane is intact without any cuts or wounds. HPV causes papillomas/ warts. HPV transmission requires long term contact not a 30 second kiss. Saliva or blood even if it is infected, will be digested by your stomach enzymes. So on the way down if there are cuts or wounds then only there is a small chance of infection.
2. Oral swab for HPV is a reliable test, it being negative should allay your fears of HPV.
3. If doing an oral rinse test gives you peace, go ahead.
4. EBV,CMV, HIV, HBsAg and other bacteria and viruses causing sore throat like streptococcus can be transmitted via saliva. Severe sore throat can be a sign of EBV as well. You may do a XXXXXXX Bunnel test to rule out EBV.
You may do an HIV, HBsAg test and CMV IgG and IgM test, XXXXXXX Bunnel test, ASLO titre (Streptococcal ).
Hope this helped,
Take care

Since your a specialist in dermatology would you be able to answer my final question in detail?
I engaged in hand genital contact with a masseuse and I feel extremely guilty about it.The exposure was only restricted to hand genital contact. My main concern is that there was a client before me and I do not believe that the masseuse used sufficient hygiene and didn't wash her hands properly so I developed a flat black lesion stuck to my foreskin and I do not know what it is.i have attached a few pictures. I went to the dermatologist he said it was a wart but not hpv related so I do not know what it is exactly as I thought all warts were hpv related and I am too young to aquire a sebbroheic wart.He clearly mentioned it is a non infectious wart and it can happen anywhere in the body.My questions regarding the same.:
1) can I aquire hpv via hand genital contact. The time period from the time of the previous client to my genital was 20 minutes.
2) what lesion is this as per your knowledge.
3) The handjob was unprotected so how much time can the virus of the previous client stay on her hands to infect my genitals. Can the virus die if exposed to air in 15 minutes. She gave me a body massage for 15 minutes and a handjob in the end for 5 minutes.
4) I am conducting a penal swab for hpv , is it reliable in detecting dna even without lesions.
5) MY MAIN QUERY:CAN I AQUIRE THE HIGH RISK STRAINS TOO VIA A HAND JOB OR ONLY LOW RISK.
THANKS. A detailed answer on this would be highly appreciated

Brief Answer:
Wart penis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back.
Thanks for the picture.
1 yes you can acquire HPV by hand genital contact
2 There are two possibilities, one seborrhoeic keratosis, two melanocytic nevus. They do not look like a viral wart. You may confirm it by doing an excisional biopsy. The lesion will be totally removed, at the same time you will know the diagnosis without bothering about hpv swab test.
3 She could have had warts on her hands. Why should it be from previous client ? Both are possible, but the lesion you have is not viral wart.
4 No need of penal swab.
5 Majority of HPV causing warts are low risk strains approximately 90 %, but you can acquire high risk strains as well by hand job, but again what you have is not wart.
Hope this helped,
Take care.
