Question: Been in cold and wet for hours, and started shivering. Now at home, wrapped up, but still shivering slightly. Concerned I have hypothermia. Should I call 911, or just stay warming up in bed?

Brief Answer:
911 call not needed at present. watch for next 1 hour.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* Usually the temperature regulation of the body takes around 60 minutes on an average
to settle when one returns from excess cold.

The primary concern should be

- maintaining hydration with plenty of liquids, caffeine containing drinks as hot coffee
- room air warmer with set temperature for a period of around 30 minutes
- consumption of tablet paracetamol ( 650 mg ) with some snacks

Watch for level of rigors during next 1 hour.
Consult 911 later if needed, not at present.

Wish you best health and recovery.
Regards.
