Brief Answer:
Anything below 8-9mg/dl is concerning

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I believe you're talking about the Hemoglobin levels here. In adult female, the normal level is above 12mg/dl. Any reading less than that is termed as anemia, which requires further evaluation to find out the cause. Management can be done based on the findings.

While any reading below 12 requires further evaluation, a hemoglobin reading below 8-9mg/dl is concerning and requires prompt medical attention and further investigations for proper management.

If you've done any investigations (e.g. Hemogram) recently, kindly share the details so that I can assist you further.

I have some deficiencies in b12, vitamin d and calcium. I tried supplements for a couple of them a year ago and had some problems with them so I don't take any now. The only supplement I take is potassium as I've had issues with hypokalemia several times in the past.
Additionally I lost some more foods (allergies) that I had eaten that had some of those vitamins in them previously. So those deficiencies are still low as they haven't been corrected.
My blood readings show a high mcv, mch reading and low calcium and d, as well as low blood readings (white and red). Are deficiencies able to lower those readings that much (average 14.7 hgb is now 10.2, WBC 6-8 is now 3.3, and RBC ranges were from 4.3-4.7 and now it's 2.2). Additionally my platelets have also dropped and hct is now 28 down from 42. I've heard a little bit of everything from b12 deficiency to lupus to blood loss so the actual cause still hasn't been isolated either.

Brief Answer:
Further evaluation needed.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Yes, you've heard them right. However, a drop in Hgb from 14.7 to 10.2 should be thoroughly investigated to find out the exact cause. Yes, the B12 deficiency can be an additional factor behind this.

So, at this outset, a thorough set of investigations i.e. complete hemogram with peripheral blood smear, LFT, KFT, Iron profile, Stool routine analysis and OBT, USG whole abdomen should be done to look into it further. The necessary treatment plan to be decided based on the findings.

Please discuss this with your doctor and proceed further.
