Are Warts Formed Due To Sexual Transmission?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Nov 2014
Question: ok I am a 61 year old male about to go for my first colonoscopy. On the medical form that I filled out I stated that at 25 I had hepatitis A and a year later I had rectal warts. I had them surgically rmoved at the time and never thought about it since then. ( 35 years ago. I get a physical every year, total blood work digital exam ect.......I am married 32 years and my wife has never had an abnormal pap smear. My question is why when the colonoscopy doctor saw that I had anal warts removed 33 years ago the only question was did you have anal. I said no and he said ok ill do a whole rectal exam before the colonoscopy> Is it proven that all rectal warts can only be gotten sexually from the hpv virus.......My doctor is an internist and when she does the prsoate exam she probes around for a long time. Wouldn't she have noticed something......sorry that was the second question

Brief Answer:
warts are not always due to sexual transmission

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Warts due to HPV are not always due to sexual transmission. But sexual transmission is one of the causes,, that's why the question about anal sex was necessary.
Your doctor probably want to do a rectal exam before the colonoscopy to check the external anal spincter and the anal canal to look for remnants of warts as very rarely the can develop cancer or recur.
Hope this helps
