Question: Hi Doctor,

I am 28 and My husband is 35. We are planning for baby now. Are there any tests to be done before planning for healthy pregnancy? What kind of tests and where it can be done.

Just want to make sure that we both are healthy enough before planning.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Get semen analysis, HSG and ultrasound scan

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I understand you wish to know about planning healthy pregnancy.

Following is my reply:

1) If you have been trying for pregnancy for less than a year , there are no trsts required.

2) If you are not able to conceive even after trying for a year you need to do few basic tests.

3) HSG ( Hysterosalpingogram) to identify the patency of your fallopian tubes.

4) Semen analysis of your husband to identify if his sperms are normal or there is any problem.

5) You can also opt to get an ultrasound scan from a fertility specialist to know if your egg reserve is fine and there are no fibroid or polyps in uterus.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

Dr. Soumya
