Are There Any Interactions Between Prednisolone And Cortizone?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: I'm taking oxycodone for years addictively after my back surgery in 1999. Now I've been prescribed methyl prednisolone for chronic shoulder pain after he gave me a shot of Cortizone in my shoulder rotator cuff and AC joint. Are there any interactions to be concerned? I recently reduced the oxy I take in half from 450 mg to 200 mg/ day and have stabilized there for the past 30 days before cutting back further. Prior attempts at cold turkey failed but thi should work. Any concerns of mixing these medications?

Brief Answer:
Methyl prednisone should not be taken for more then a month

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Pain in shoulder can be due to cuff tear or frozen shoulder. Injection of steroid is ok but taking oral steroids is not good. I would sugggest you to avoid taking any shoulder medications. These are only going to harm you. I would suggest you to get MRI of the shoulder to see if there is any cuff tear. It can be repaired by surgery and then there is no need for steroids.
As far as drug interaction between ocxycodone and steroid is concerned there is no problem. But from my side a big no for oral steroids.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks
