Hello Doctor,

Please find reply as below

Is this hair loss associated with itching or burning?
My Answer - We could see some hair itching and dandruff is due to dryness, later we started coconut oil massage and is quite normal now

Is it progressive or stationary?
My Answer - seems to be progressive very slowly

Do you have itchy papules on the body?
My Answer - only in summer some heat/sweat rashes appears due to outdoor games

Was the hair loss preceded by any itchy bumps?
My Answer - I noticed when my son was about 10 years that he has some very small patches where hair growth is negligible or gap in hair but it looks like that it is increasing

Just to give more background, he is in class 12th and may be due to some study pressure and anxiety, Pls correlate medically..

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Pseudopelade or alopecia areata, oral & topical steroids

Detailed Answer:
According to your complaints it seems to be either paeudopelade which is a type of scarring alopecia or alopecia areata.
If I was his treating doctor I would recommend him to take a course of oral steroids like tablet prednisone 0.5 mg perkg body weight per day for 2 consecutive days in a week for 4-6 weeks and apply topical steroid like mometasone lotion on the affected areas twice daily.
These are prescription drugs and should be taken under the supervision of the doctor as they can have side effects.

Thanks Doctor...

can we start applying topical steroid like mometasone lotion on the affected areas twice daily without paeudopelade?

and as paeudopelade may have side effect, should we start with small dosage to check if there is any side effect say 2 mg or so?

Thanks and Regards
