Are Severe Pain The Right Ear, Tinnitus And Dizziness Symptoms Confirming That I Have An Ear Infection?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2021
Question: Do I have an ear infection? I'm having much pain in my right ear, and have been dizzy for several days. I've been cleaning in a dusty, mil-dewy environment for at least a week. I take medication for rhinitis and other allergic symptoms. The poor environment has worsened my symptoms. I have a history of past, resolved history of migraines, but I've never experienced sharp pain in my ears. Today I woke up with severe pain in my right ear. Both ears have been ringing. I take antidepressants for my bipolar condition, and medication for hypothyroidism. I've never had an ear infection before.

Brief Answer:
ear infection definitely possible

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Thanks for using our platform for your query.

It is definitely possible that you have an ear infection. If the pain was related to your allergic symptoms, it would typically affect both ears.

If an ear infection is present then a course of topical or oral antibiotics is needed for treatment.
Pain medication can be used along with the antibiotics.

Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) can be due to different causes including sinus congestion which may have occurred as a result of your exposure to dust and mold. Use of anti histamine/decongestant combination and avoiding further exposure, would be helpful for these symptoms.
A topical nasal spray such as nasonex, nasocort, flonase etc, may also help as well.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you for your advice; I will visit my doctor to see if I have an ear infection. May I also ask if the recurrent neck pain is a separate issue. I think I pulled, or strained, a ligament on the right side of my neck.

Brief Answer:
likely due to another cause

Detailed Answer:
HI

Neck pain does not usually occur with ear infections or sinusitis and it is likely related to another issue.

It is possible that it is due to strain of a muscle in the neck. The use of anti inflammatory meds (naproxen, ibuprofen, cataflam etc) , a warm compress to the area and muscle relaxant (if needed)- may help
