Are Negative HIV Tridot Test Results After 47 Days Of Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: i had unprotected sex with two girls in thailand whom i picked up in a reputed club. The girls were looking clean. I was drunk and i did a stupid mistake which came to my senses the next day. i confirmed the HIV status of one girl which was negative. The other girl was hard to find. Due to my travelling schedule i started my PEP of vonaday tablets after 4 days only.
I tested for viral load on the 5th day which was undetectable.
I tested HIV Tridot on the 33rd day which was negative
Finally i tested Tridot on 47th which was negative.

1. Are my test reliable?
2. I feel pain when i swallow in my throat and jaw, Also i saw 5 to 6 pink spots on my penile head which did not pain or itch. my doctor said it was an allergy, is this any indication? i tested for other std like syphillis which was negative,
3. What are my chances of getting infected after 7 weeks?
4. finally how confident i can be with my test results as i am frustrated and afraid for my future ?
i will further test at 3 months but i am going for europe and i could not concentrate on anything. Your answer could give me peace as i read after 6 weeks it highly unlike for infection.

Please help me and i thank you for your services.

Brief Answer:
Please get 4th generation rapid test done if not done earlier

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Your test results are reliable. Internationally it is recommended to do 4th generation rapid HIV test after 30 days from suspected exposure. This tests for HIV 1 and 2 antibodies and p24 antigen. If this test has been done for you on day 47 then you are safe.

2. The feeling of pain during swallowing might be due to common cold or anxiety. If your pink spots on the penis have been examined by the doctor then it is surely an allergy.

3. There are no specific chances of getting affected after 7 weeks. The chance of HIV being transmitted in 1 in 2000 to 4000 after having sex with a woman of uncertain HIV status. Your test results are negative till now and hopefully will stay negative.

Please do not get in to panic mode. You might confirm if the test you got done included testing for p24 and if yes then you are completely safe from HIV 1. If p24 was not done then I suggest you get it done and then have peace of mind. Chances of HIV 2 infection is negligible.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Thank you for your reply doctor, it was helpful.
i have further clarification,

1. I am not having cold but when i swallow saliva there is a sharp pain in the left side of the throat. I also have these red spots in my penile head which i am taking tablets prescribed for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Do i have other indication of STD or should i worry about HIV seroconversion after 7 weeks?

2. After seven weeks the test result for HIV 1 & HIV 2 antibody TRIdot test was given negative result. Can i take this as a good indication and live life normally? i read that antibody test is highly accurate after 6 weeks and it is never going to change after that ?

3. How reliable is my RNA PCR viral load test taken after 5 days? is it a good indication as i read viral load test is reliable after 3 days itself?

4. I am stressed and the anxiety is killing me from inside due to this experience. i am leaving Europe for my studies and i could not concentrate on anything. Please help me to understand my complexity of STD and i fear most for HIV?

Thankyou for your services.

Brief Answer:
Please find details below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. It is possible that you have got a viral flu. Common cold need not necessarily be present in every patient with viral flu. It is likely due to weather changes and less likely from STDs or HIV seroconversion. There is no need to worry.

2. The HIV 1 and 2 antibody test is technically to be done at 3 months and 6 months to confirm normal status. Doing it at 7 weeks and having a negative result is fine but then this particular test has to be repeated at 3 months and 6 months again.

3. RNA PCR test is usually done for patients to check viral load. This helps in children born to HIV mothers and those who have to monitor HIV viral load. In your case doing HIV PCR at 5 days has intermediate validity.

4. There is no need to have anxiety. As discussed earlier, doing the p24 antigen test is the latest in international protocols. If you get the test done and it is negative then 99 percent you are safe from HIV.

5. Please enjoy your trip to europe.

Hope your query is answered.
