Are Moles On The Forehead A Beginning Sign Of Cancer?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Jan 2021
Question: Hello! This questions pertains to my son, who is turning 20 in a few weeks, and a few new moles I just noticed on his forehead that I believe appeared over the last few months. (unfortunately, I have a bit of health anxiety going on right now and worry over these things!).

I’m attaching a photo of his forehead...I apologize that it is not veryclear, as I took it from his Facebook and didn’t want to ask him to let me take a picture lol! Anyways, you’ll notice a mole in the middle of his forehead that’s been there awhile, not changing or anything, and was checked by a Dermatologist last year. The new moles I noticed are to the right side of it in the picture...they look perfectly normal with none
of the usual danger signs to look for. All of that being said, my question is this...is it typical for a person to develop new moles like that at age 19, and up until about what age can they continue to develop? Also, from the limited degree of which you can see them in the picture, do they appear to be nothing to worry about? Thank you so much!

Brief Answer:
Normal to develop moles at the age of 20, nothing to worry about

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have reviewed the attached photograph though it's not very clear.
Moles can develop at any age and it is very common to develop moles at the age of 20.
There is nothing to worry about.
Looking at the picture you have uploaded the moles are looking normal.
Everything seems fine.

Hi Dr. Asmeet! It is so nice to have you having answered my question! You have helped me immensely in the past with my numerous neurotic skin questions and as I've said in the past, you have truly been a godsend to me! I have been doing quite well with my skin related health anxiety, but every now and then I have a little flare-up with something, as I did when I suddenly noticed the additional moles on my son's forehead.

So just for future reference, it is nothing to worry about if I see some random moles appearing on his face or elsewhere at his age of 20, obviously presuming that they don't exhibit any of the typical danger signs? And one last question -- can moles just appear pretty quickly like that, over the course of a few months?

Thank you again so very much!!
