Are Male Enhancement Supplements Safe To Take?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Jun 2014
Question: I take male enhancement supplement from Zenerx. It contains Panax ginseng and ginkgo biloba .
They claim all natural herbal ingredients.
Company has been in business 10 years or so.
I also take 200gms of saw palmetto for prostate health and 1 multivitamin tablet daily.
Is the male enhancement supplement safe to take. So far no side effects after 1week taking 2 tablets daily and it definitely "cured" my erectile dysfunction .

Need to evaluated for cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Thanks for using Health care magic.

I went through your query and understood your concerns.

Sexual performance declines naturally as men age, But a rapid or severe decrease in performance or libido can be a red flag. Most importantly, erectile dysfunction may be an early predictor of heart disease.

Atherosclerosis, a condition in which fatty deposits build up inside arteries, may restrict blood flow to the penis and cause erection difficulties.

Weight control and need to get lipid profile test done. Control over cholesterol level, reduction in alcohol consumption and quitting smoking ( if you smoke) do helps to improve erectile function.

Better to get basic blood test done to evaluate cardiac status and blood sugar level test done.

Thyroid supplements should not be stopped with out consulting doctor. Better you get thyroid test done, if hormonal levels are low, definitely need to take thyroid supplements.

Herbal supplements do help in erectile dysfunction, have shown to improve condition in many patients with not much side effects, but better to rule out other medical conditions first .

Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask further related query.

Wish you a good health.

Regards

Slightly on the high side but nothing abnormal. Taking fish oil supplement to lower this condition. Blood pressure excellent.
Hence I am not overweight, never smoked in my life, drink alcohol in moderation.
Libido got worse in 30 days after taking Armor, 15 gms daily. Can this be the culprit in your opinion?

Detailed Answer:

Hi, thanks for follow up query.

Thyroid supplement not associated with any changes in libido, but it do has effect on mood changes. Which could be a possible reason.

Though ginseng is herbal product considered to be safe, do has some side effects like nausea , restlessness , increased heart rate.

These herbal products have shown to improve erectile dysfunction .

Thyroid supplement should be continued, dose needs to be adjusted according to TSH level.

Hope I answered your query.
