Are Feet Swelling, Body Weakness And Tightness In The Lower Legs Past The Knee While On Tinidazole A Concern?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Mar 2024
Question: I took tinidazole for 5 doses last month. My feet swelled and ankles and lower legs experienced significant tightness. Tightness has continued, but this week I experienced severe body weakness and increased tightness from my ankles up past my knees, with a faint splotchy skin discoloration. Thoughts? YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Can be arthritis or immune related cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The swelling of feet and legs with weakness and tightness with mild skin discoloration can be related to an inflammation like arthritis. Any immune disorder also needs to be ruled out after a proper examination and a few investigations.
You can start with mild pain killers, hot compress, calcium supplements, increased electrolyte rich fluid intake. In case all these do not help then do consult your physician for a few investigations.
I hope this answers your query.

Dr. XXXX, this was immensely helpful. I have an immune deficiency disease — Common Variable Immune Deficiency — for which I receive weekly sub-qu injections of Hyzentra (IgA). Along with the issues in my ankles and legs, this past week I have experienced extreme weakness, and some dizziness, making it difficult to function. Mostly i have needed to be in bed. Does the weakness also connect to the tinidazole, even though it has been several weeks since I took it ( for two days, two tablets each day)? And if your diagnosis is correct, which certainly makes sense to me, what can I do now to address these symptoms? I appreciate your thoughts, as no one else has made these connections. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Not related to tinidazole.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The weakness and dizziness is not likely to be related to tinidazole. You need to increase your fluid intake and electrolyte rich fluids like Garotade. Do get your electrolyte levels evaluated and consult your physician for prescription medicines.
Hope my answer is helpful.
