Are Esophagitis And Gastritis Associated With Alpha1-antitrypsin Deficiency?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: Hi! I'm a Carrier of Alpha -1 Antitrypsin Disease. My father had the Disease with Geno Type ZZ. I along with my siblings are Carriers.

I have noticed for the last two years that my stomach is bloated and it is hard. My liver has no pain but the stomach and my skin irritations are troubling me. Can you tell me if these symptoms have a connection to my Alpha 1? Thank you so much! XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Hello. I understand your concern here

Detailed Answer:
There can be liver disorders related to your disease like hepatitis and fatty liver disorder.

Esophagitis and gastritis can also be associated with a-1-antitrypsin disorder.

That said, this could be unrelated and it might be gastric reflux disorder, celiac disorder, or an H pylori stomach infection.

To determine what the problem is, I would get some blood work and to an upper endoscopy on you.

Please let me know if you need more information, XXXXXXX

Hi Doc!

Why do you think I have a swollen stomach? Is that related to my Alpha 1 Carrier issue? Also, what would you recommend for my itchy red spots?

Many thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Hi again

Detailed Answer:
I don't think your stomach problem is directly related but it could be from a hiatal hernia or from an H pylori infection

In general the skin problem is not relate to the a1 antitrypsin disorder. The red spots sound like an inflammatory eczema and cortisone cream can help with that
