Are Indomethacin And Allopurinol Right Medication For Gout Attacks?

default
Posted on Sat, 12 Sep 2015
Question: i am experiencing an extended gout attack, which my dr is treating with endomethacin (50 mg 3x daily) and allopurinol (300mg 1xd). I have also been losing weight (25 lbs in 60 days), down from 250. When I began the treatment I also took Colcichine for a few days. After a couple days I had some relief, but since stopping Colcichine the symptoms have returned. I have not been eating any foods with significant purine content for more than 2 weeks. My thought is that the weight loss is releasing toxins from the fat cells, and that this may last until that process is finished. Can you suggest anything further that might help mitigate the swelling and pain?

Brief Answer:
Indomethacine ay be combined with short term prednisolone

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

you are correct the process will probably need a few more weeks. However to reduce pain and swelling to (only temporary!) combine indometacine with prednisolone to give you some more relief.

Please discuss this with your treating doc.
