Question: About 2 years ago I had what I was told was a muscle spasm in my neck. This happened twice within a few months of each other. Then a few months later I had intense chest and back pains at first thinking I was having a heart attack. Was told muscle spasms again but it continued for days getting much worse at night until one night I had to go to the emergency room for the pain. I had a cat scan done and was told that all of the cartilage in my rib cage was inflamed. Wednesday I had the same issue with my neck. It started in my shoulder and then moved to my neck it got better on its own after a few days. But last night I could feel the waves of pain starting in my chest again. Why is this happening

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that the pain in your neck irradiation in the chest pain and shoulder could be suggestive of a possible bulging disc in the cervical vertebral column.

For this reason, I would recommend consulting with a neurologist for a physical exam and performing a cervical spine X ray study. A cervical spine MRI study would be a more accurate test.

I would also recommend checking inflammation tests ( complete blood count, PCR, ESR) and vitamin D plasma levels for possible deficiency.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
