doctor1 MD

Hello,
Welcome to HCM,
When you are on immunotherapy, for first few weeks your symptoms may increase but you have to continue taking the treatment because in immunotherapy known allergen is given to you in different dilution so that your immune system will be primed to fight against the allergen....

Whenever I have even a sip of alcohol, I get such an intense pressure in my chest and it's hard to get a deep breath. Do you think I could have an allergy to alcohol? This pressure even goes into my upper arms. It's been going on for at least 30 years, but for the last 8 years or so, it happens every time and even when I just have a sip of wine or beer, any alcohol at all. I have been a non-smoker for over 6 years.

doctor1 MD

Hi

Thanks for posting the query.

Yes, after going through the history I do feel you are having an allergy to alcohol, but an atypical one. Usually a reaction to alcohol is caused by ingredients present in the drink, like sulphites, malt, yeast, etc.

Sulphites are one of the commonest chemicals...

A female friend of mine has just been diagnosed with a malignant mass on the frontal cortex. Scans which initially suggested metastasis to other organs have proven negative. While the surgeon intends to do surgery shortly for biopsy ( and presumably to remove the mass), he is also suggesting immunotherapy as an adjunct. Is there any evidence that this path could prove viable?

Do people survive cancers of " this nature"? Prognostically speaking, do you realistically see anything redeeming in such a situation? Any response that you provide will remain inaccessible to the pt. and her family.

Thank you

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
it is a difficult situation

Detailed Answer:

Though I have not gone...

Hi, Can you tell me more about the ketogenic diet. I have a friend battling a 6 year Glioblastoma tumor. She is currently up at the Dana Farber Institute going through a clinical trial and just got accepted into a 2nd trial..called Immunotherapy. I am a certified Health Coach who teaches individuals about a plant based diet. I am not vegan, but believe in the power of plants and disease prevention. My health mentor thinks that my friend should look more into the ketogenic diet b/c of the success rates with it and brain tumors. Any advice? I am in charge of organizing all of the food being brought to her and her family. I had a plan, but not feel like I need to re-think what I am having her friends and volunteers make. Thanks in advance for your input. Caroline :)
