This is a follow-up to our chat of a few days ago re magnesium to alleviate intense muscle spasms in my thigh. It seems to be helping along with the 2mg Tizanidine. I have spoken with my internist and he agrees that I should see an orthopedist to check out the possibilty of periformis/sciatica which could also cause the spasms. I am making an appointment after the Christmas holidays. Also, I have apparently injured the hamstrings on that same leg. I know one night when I had the spasms I kicked my leg very hard and the other day when walking I felt something "move" in that area. It is so painful and superseded the muscle cramping especially trying to sleep and sitting down. When I turn in bed I let out a yell. I believe all of this is connected. Last night I waited an appropriate amount of time between taking the Tizanadine for the cramping and then took a Vicoden which did nothing to alleviate the hamstrings pain. Any suggestions as to what else I can take for this? .Perhaps a better combination of Tizanadine, Advil and ES Tylenol Or higher dosage of Tizanadine.. Sorry for long note but wanted to make sure I included everything involved.

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
You can double the dose of Tizanidine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the hamstrings after an injury can be due to a muscle strain. This usually heals with icing the area and a higher dose of tizanidine. You can have double the dose of...

Fell on left side of back one week ago. Lower left rib hurt some at the time but quickly got better. Two days later pain was severe, took ibuprofen and it helped. Very severe pain now when I sneeze or cough in same area. Gradually eases off after a while. Still taking ibuprofen. Doesn't appear to be any swelling or discoloration.

Pain is excruciating when I sneeze. Any way to avoid or reduce severity of pain during sneeze or coughing? Pain is in lower left rear back at bottom of rib cage. After sneeze or cough pain has subsided it has burning sensation for 30 to 45 minutes. Is slightly sensitive to touch but not bad. I have been taking 600 mg of Advil a couple of time a day which seems to have best effect.

doctor1 MD

My daughter was kicked in the leg during a soccer game. She was kicked on the left leg on the outside of the leg. She does not have a bruise or swelling, but complains of pain. I iced it and wrapped it with an ace bandage and reapplied ice, and told her to stay off her feet and elevate the leg. What do you recommend. Send response to YYYY@YYYY

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury. It is good that you had followed the principle of RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation). If swelling and tendernessis more and painful to bear weight it is better to rule out bony injury by xrays.
Hope this...

Three days ago my sister woke up with pain on the top of her foot with swelling but no bruising. She's been using ibuprofen, ice, and elevation while at rest but it's still not getting any better. Last night and today, it now feels warm to the touch. Any ideas of this sudden onset without warning? I told her to go to ER to get it checked but she insists on continuing with what she's been doing to see if it gets better that way. She's now wrapping it with an ACE bandage when she's on her feet.

doctor1 MD

Hello,
Welcome at HCM.

I have read complete details of your question.

Presence of warmness at foot & occurrence of swelling without any warning is most probably suggesting presence of an infection. She should do following to have relief-

-She should do rest.

-Kep her limb elevated on a pillow....

Missed an IV injection of meth ealier today. The site is red, hot, swollen, and somewhat uncomfortable and painful. During my shower tonight, I "soaked" it in hot water for about a half hour. While doing that, I was able to massage the area (around, up, and down my arm) while doing arm bends & flexeddiscomfort. Once I showered, I applied muscle & joint rub and wrapped an ace bandage

doctor1 MD

Hi there ~

You have an infected site on you skin where you were shooting up meth. I would recommend that you go to a local doctor to have it treated and be prescribed the right antibiotics. Also please start thinking about quitting meth as it will destroy you as a person and will ultimately...

The joint on my pinky finger, just past the nail, is swollen & extremely painful. It hurts to bend or touch this area. If I wrap the area with a small ace bandage for a few days, the pain seems to lessen. What could this be? Is a doctor s visit warranted? Thanks!

I am sure that I have a (slight) fracture of the 5th metatarsal. The symptoms are swelling of the little toe and its joint region only. The pain and swelling have decreased somewhat. I walk awkwardly during the day and when I am back in the evening I take my normal shoes off, pain increases and I begin to hobble around. I know this is due to the fatigue I cause during the day. To describe the happening, I am an amatuer distance runner and had recently got back into training. I obviously increased the milage of my runs too quickly. On one run I stepped on a small stone on the outer side of the foot and didn t really feel any annoyance until the next day. Two days later, despite the a very slight annoyance (hardly a reason not to run) I decided to run on it over a quicker 6 mile run and the twanging pain (not unbearable) began after I had cooled down. Do you think a crepe bandage will be enough over a 2-3 week recovery?

I hit my ankle with the corner of my van door. It hurt right away and felt bruised, but after being on it all day it is very swollen and I can t put pressure on it because it is very painful. I tried ice and an ace bandage, but doesn t seem to be better. Any suggestions?
