I got my left side only EMG about 2 and a half weeks ago and the neuro said I was fine, but I am terrified I still have this. I had two neuros basically say I don't have it and just said it was all due to stress, but I have read so many different things on the internet I don't know what to think anymore.

My first neuro who actually worked with different ALS patients, said that you can't have symptoms months before leading up to a diagnoses of ALS (since I first came to him after only feeling weird symptoms for about 2-3 weeks), then I will watch documentaries of people in their 20's like myself and read things and people will say they felt twitches or a stiff muslces months or even a year before they were actually diagnosed.

I have been currently feeling new symptoms after my first EMG. These symptoms thought have been progressing in my right arm for about two and a half months. I have 24/7 cramping in my right hand, forearm, bicep, shoulder and back. I also have twitches all over my upper right side as well that hurt, because it's always cramped. I rarely have twitches anywhere else. My arm also feels weaker and more shaky, compared to my left arm. I also have stiffness and pain in right knee.

I had heard that ALS usually starts with one limb then spreads. That also scares me too and I have had a lot of blood work done, mri's, and a spinal tap to see if it was something else. Is it something I will have to keep an eye on for a couple of months? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
NOT ALS

Detailed Answer:
Good afternoon. My name is Dr. Saghafi and I am happy to answer this important question for you.

I've carefully read over your description of your problem as well as the fact that 2 neurologists as well as an EMG test have said, NO to ALS as a possible cause...

Hello doc, i am a 23 year old male, 177lb, raised in South Florida and i believe i has MS. I have been concerned recently because of the symptoms i have been experiencing. It started about 3 years ago and they have not subsided since, but they have not gotten worse either other than cause me a great deal of anxiety. I have fluctuations all over my body (most people get it in there eye lid for a couple hours then it goes away. I have gotten them all over from head to toe sometimes its one like twitch or sometimes it'll be a couple twitches, feels like a heartbeat under the skin but never more than 30 seconds, again this is body wide on my lip, fingers, pectoral muscle, bicep, back, calfs (especially the calfs!), hamstrings, etc. Then began the pins and needles/electric zap sensation(last less then a second but comes every couple minutes) on my left ring finger and sometimes pinky also some numbness mostly in my feet. the numbness i would rate 1-2 out of ten not bad but causes me great anxiety something is wrong with me.

So i saw two neurologist, i convinced me them to run tests. i have had 2 MRI's of my brain w/out contrast, 1 MRI with Contrast and 1 MRI of my cervix area. All Came out clean according to the report and they even had an MRI of my brain to compare it to from when i was 16 years (had a car accident at that moment)

i had also a EMG done, the docter said that according to my results he thinks i have ulnar nerve and carpal tunnel in both arms.

As for the feet they both say it is probably anxiety which i have been diagnosed by a medical health professional as being a hypochondriac / OCD disorder

As for the twitches, they said it was BFS. Benign Fluctuation Syndrome

Last thing you should know, i had a spinal tap done, BUT! it was done because i had a seizure (fever related) not because they where or was asking to check to find abnormalities that point to MS.

Here are my questions,
Will the spinal tap show any abnormalities that would point to MS if they where not searching for it MS in particular?

I am still worried i have it because my feet are numb and i still have the shocking sensation in my ring finger. Keep in my mind these symptoms all started at the same time as the body wide twitches.

I would really appreciate your opinion on my situation. And what course of action i should or should not take. I know this is just a consultation, i made another appointment with my Nuero today but i like getting everybody not just 1 persons opinion on the matter.

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
MS is very low on my differential list of possibilities from description

Detailed Answer:
Good evening. I'm the neurologist that sent you the poem on BFS. I still would say that's a likely possibility having to do with all of the twitching you're describing. As far as the tingling...

My nephew is in the hospital. Blood sugar over 400 and severe dizziness. Doctor is doing a spinal tap. Apparently there is some question about him being dizzy. What will the spinal tap results show that would give the doctor the answer is he sincerely dizzy or not. Thank you.

doctor1 MD

I ve suffered from unexplained dizziness episodes for 7 yrs now and just discovered if I turn my head slightly to the right, it makes it go away. Have had many tests done including MRI & MRA of brain and a spinal tap. The MRI showed ovoid plaques in/on left and right frontal lobes but spinal tap did not show anything. Was just wondering if the dizziness is related to these ovoid plaques or possibly my torticollis?
