Colostomy

What is Colostomy?

A colostomy is a stoma created after resection of a portion of the large colon. Frequently, patients who have disorders of the colon, whether by virtue of severe colitis or through malignant tumors, require surgical excision of a portion of their large intestine. In many cases, a temporary or permanent stoma may be created to bypass the missing portion.
