Questions and answers on "Abdominoplasty"

Hello doctor,
I had planned for a mammoplasty (reduction) and abdominoplasty with a gap of 1 month after consulting with my surgeon. The mammoplasty was done on March 16th in bangalore and i am still having pain around the stiches and have had a series of health problems that i have never had earlier in past 1 month. High fever, followed by low bp and sever joint pain. This is despite following my doctor's prescription and food advice. How do I ensure that my stitches are not somehow infected and what kind of diet should i follow to ensure I am healthy again. It's already been 1 month since the surgery and my surgeon feels i am ready for abdominoplasty in 1-2 weeks now. Looking at my experience with the last surgery do you advice that I am ready? what would be my recovery time for abdominoplasty?

Hi XXXXXX,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your mail as I was out of town.

Pain around the stitches is normal because there are sutures inside which need to dissolve and also the swelling which has to resolve. You haven't told me what kind of a procedure was done for the reduction. The...

hi, I had an abdominoplasty Tuesday last week. And I did a pregnancy test as I was due on the same day and it said negative. I did a test this week and it says I am pregnant. I want a termination. However, a few of the clinics I have spoken to are unwilling. I am moving fine and healing really well.
I am very worried because I do not want to have another child for many reasons.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

You should get an ultrasound done.

If it is an early pregnancy then you can take pills under your doctor's guidance and prescription. Today’s research indicates that a move toward individualizing the dosing of prescription agents is warranted and it can happen...

I have umblicord hernia for which I am doing repair on Monday. Also I wanted to do abdominoplasty. Wanted to know if any side effects in abdominoplasty.

doctor1 MD

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

I assume that by abdominoplasty you mean removing a flabby tissues from your abdomen which is skin and fat. This surgery like every surgery gives a risk of bleeding during it, wound infection, there are large bruises visible for few weeks after the surgery. Every...

I had +5 diastasis recti and umbilical hernia 4 yrs ago, just months after having my 2nd child (and last) and had a complete abdominal reconstruction done: abdominoplasty, hernia repair/tissue grafting, belly button repositioning, and mini-tummy tuck...all in same procedure. Healed well, however, 4 yrs later, I still have digestive issues. I may only have 3-5 BM's in a whole month. Is this common with this procedure? I have not been to a doctor about it, but I am considering seeing my doctor about this issue. I've only lately started paying attention to this issue and realized it may be a health problem.

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, just 3 to 5 times passing the stool in month could be matter of concern and it may be due to the major operative procedure you had gone through, I would advise or in my opinion you have to inform the operative team and discuss the symptom with...

Hi. I am 5 weeks post tummy tuck. During week 4, swelling started to go down significantly and I started to enjoy the results of my tummy tuck. Suddenly in week 5, I started to look very bloated as if I was pregnant . I was depressed and wondering why this happened and if it will stay. After 3 days of bloating , I felt gas in my tummy. Is this bloating gonna affect my tummy tuck results? Is my flat tummy going to be back after getting rid of all the gas?

doctor1 MD

Hi, welcome to HCM.

Tummy tuck/abdominoplasty treatments involve removal of extra fat, however they dont promise that as a weight loss programme. However, you can wait for 2 more weeks to see if there are any results. Also, consume a healthy balanced diet and avoid fatty foods from now so that...

Had tummy tuck 4.5 months ago. Have a very bumpy area on incision line that is not very visiable outwardly but is lumpy when is touch it. Not as concerned with the bumpy. knotty lumps as the sharp pain I feel only in that spot when I cough or move just right. Its a sharp/burning feeling. Have had it almost right after surgery but figured it was part of the healing and would lessen. It has not. Any thoughts as to what it is or what I can do to get rid of the pain? Thanks Brenda

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Tummy tuck is tightening of separated abdominal muscle, removal of excessive skin,
and removal fat by combined liposuction according to the need.
The scar area is bumpy, knotty - is not your concern
The sharp pain is due to suturing of separated muscles and fat.
Except skin sutures all other...

Hello I had abdominoplasty three weeks ago.I had a marcane pain buster after surgery for a few days and never experienced much p ain at all since then. I only took an occasional hydrocodone , motrin and tylenol . Everything was great and then a week ago I started feeling sick. My urine got dark and my skin began to itch and my urine was dark. It turns out my liver enzymes and esophinosil levels are up and I might have cholestasis hepatitis. I am to f/u with my gastroenterologist tomorrow. I have a headache now. No fever or pain anywhere. The ct showed nothing but the Gi doctor on call says I still need a sono and it could be from anesthesia. They took me off flecanide which I take for occasional paroxismal a fib. I am wondering what the best diet for this is as I am not hungry and what the recovery time is for this. Thank you very much

I ve had abdominal pain and swelling for several months. History goes back to a hysterectomy 3.5 years ago. Uterus and right ovary was removed. After an infection and pain, surgeon went back in 10 weeks later and found endometriosis that hadn t been seen before and a lot of scar tissue. Left ovary had already adhered to left abdominal wall. 3 weeks later she removed other ovary. After months of more pain after that, I was referred to a general surgeon to discuss removal of scar tissue. I opted to try PT and other things first. Now, 3.5 years later, the abdominal swelling and pain has gotten worse. Went to GI, who also referred me back to the same general surgeon for scar tissue removal. I saw him today and he asked, after looking at a recent CT scan, if I was sure that everything had been removed (uterus and both ovaries). He said there looks to be a soft tissue mass of some sort between the bladder and rectum, looks like a tampon. Obviously not that, haven t had to use one of those in almost 4 years. He seemed hesitant to do the scar tissue removal that he was willing to do years ago. Advice?
