Paronychium

What is Paronychium?

Paronychium, or the "lateral nail fold", is the soft tissue surrounding the border of the fingernail or toenail. It keeps anything from getting underneath the nail, causing an infection

This tissue can become infected around an ingrown toenail or finger nail. The resulting infection is termed paronychia.
