I have had several tight trapezius muscles for a few years now. The only temporary relief comes from cracking my neck or stretching on a foam roller. I have done deep tissues messages, gone to PT, and seen an orthopedic surgeon for X-RAYS (in which nothing abnormal showed). I am thinking of trying osteopathy? Any recommendations?

doctor1 MD

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The tight trapezius muscles can be usually relieved with oral muscle relaxants and a hot fomentation. If these are not helping then osteopathy can be tried but the extent of improvement cannot be guessed.
I hope this information has been both informative and...

I have a vacation home in North Fort Myers and I am looking for a manual osteopathy . I am from Canada and see one here. They are not family doctors as they are in Florida. Are there any such doctors in this area that do manual manipulations that I would be able to see. Last winter I saw a chiropractor but I find they make things worse .

doctor1 MD

Dear sir,

I think you need to check that in local hospital website list on internet , there you will find a list of osteopaths.

I have ongoing chronic back pain, my MRI 2 years ago showed deg inl3/4 and L4/5 with a central to right paracentral disc protrusion at L4/5 which distorts the thecal sac and impinges the right L5 nerve root ni the lateral recess but no nerve compression.
I have tried everything, osteopathy, physio and have been seeing a chiropractor for the last 6 months and cannot get anymore than a couple of days without pain.

Should I be considering surgery, I am at my wits end!

Thanks

doctor1 MD

Hi,
If the pain has been getting worse and you are not able to manage it in spite of all the therapies you have gone through, I think it would be worthwhile to consider surgery. You need to discuss with the physician and also get a thorough neurological examination done so as to accurately decide...

I have reason to think that I damaged the ligament(s) holding my sacroiliac joint on one side 4/5 years ago when digging my garden. I have tried several palliative, perhaps partly remedial, treatments by the UK National Health Service. Now beginning a course of osteopathy by UKNHS. I would appreciate your comments.

doctor1 MD

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The damaged sacroiliac ligaments with a failed palliative therapy needs to be considered for a surgical repair of the ligaments. You need to get an MRI scan done for proper evaluation.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

My 29year old daughter had a mild car accident 18months ago. Two days later she began to have neck pain which became increasingly severe. She began to vomit and faint. An initial x-ray showed no problem and she was treated with muscle relaxants and pain killers. The problem has eased but never gone and the most distressing symptom is constant breathlessness. She feels as though she can never get a deep breath. She has been having osteopathy and accupuncture which ease symptoms but do not get rid of the underlying problem. We have repeatedly been to the doctors who do not seem to realise how much of a problem this is and offer no help. She is becoming increasingly depressed. Please can you offer some advice. A recent x-ray showed mild reversal of the normal cervical lordosis. Thankyou.

doctor1 MD

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

X-ray is a good test for major fractures diagnose. However it never tells about spine condition.
It is possible that the accident has caused some spinal cord compression due to spine disc herniation for example. Neck pain is a very characteristic symptom of such...

Dear Dr Grief Iam 66, quite fit, 5 8 tall and I weigh 168 pounds. I have had two MRI Scans and diagnosed with a prolapsed L5 Disc and facet joint hypertrophy . I have severe back pain in varying degrees for 5 years. I have had: - 2x lumbar epidurals and 2 lots of radio denervation, vast amounts of physiotherapy, osteopathy , acupunctiure, exercise, chiropractor, pilates , pain classes and tens. These have had little effect. The most significant help is taking dihydrocodeine pain killers. What can I do to fix it?

doctor1 MD

Hi,
It sounds as though you have tried all the conservative treatments available. Perhaps you should see an orthopedic surgeon for advice on whether surgery may something to offer you.

I am a 37 year old male. I was recently diagnosed with avascular necrosis in at least one shoulder. I have no insurance so I only done the MRI on the left shoulder. My right shoulder has begun to have the same symptoms. My DR. has me taking anti-inflamatories and a blood thiner. He also wrote me out of work for six weeks to rest the joints. I have lost a lot of mobility in my left arm. I drive a flat bed tractor trailer and my work can be physically demanding while strapping and tarping my loads with tarps that weigh 130 lbs. My questions are will I fully recover and will I be able to return to my current job or will I need to find lighter work? Thanks in advance. Shane
