Rapid strep test

Questions and answers on "Rapid strep test"

I performed oral sex on two men this week. No ejaculation in the mouth, but not sure about pre-ejaculate, but I did notice two spots in my mouth. One was teeth marks and the other looked as if I bit my cheek. One encounter was Monday, one was Tuesday. I had spoken with them about HIV and STDs and both claim to not have anything. However, I developed a headache on Tuesday, then yesterday I had a brief runny nose and then a sore throat developed. This evening I felt like my thighs were chafing and I noticed a rash which I will attach a picture of. It is on both inner thighs, but I only took a picture of one side. Today I went to the doctor and did a test for Strep, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia as well. I was prescribed a Z Pack because I cannot take Keflex. My question is whether or not I am experiencing acute HIV infection? It has only been a few days, and I thought those symptoms presented after a few weeks. I was aware that performing fellatio is rather low risk, but I am always concerned that I am the one person who gets the short straw.

My 5 year old daughter had a low fever of 99.5 on 01/20/14; in addition, to vomiting, and a sore throat (no coughing). That went away after that day. Now 01/24/14 she has a fever of 104.6, a headache, & sore throat (still no coughing). I gave her ibuprofen and that reduced her fever to 101.3 within 30 minutes. My questions are, how high is a fever to high were I need to bring her into the ER & what is the maximum time limit to wait on the fever reducing meds. to kick-in? I dont want to rely on the fever reducers, if i should be rushing her to the ER. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

I have been sick for most of the last couple months. I have asthma and allergies and live where we have been having very bad air quality due to forest fire smoke for a couple months. Three weeks ago was diagnosed with acute bronchitis and had 5 days of prednisone. A phone line nurse last week told me I seem to have a viral infection since I started with a couple degrees of fever and two days later went over a degree below normal. I also have had a VERY sore throat when I swallow and red eyes, cough, feel miserable, oh, cough is wheezy and mostly at night. I have NO energy. The new symptom noticed yesterday am is a slightly protruding lump directly centered under my chin. It is fairly firm. Any ideas?

Hello XXXXXXX

I have asthma and allergies too and can relate - sorry.

Soot from fires can definitely be a respiratory irritant, and considerably more so for someone with asthma.

I have a few thoughts on what might be going on:

I have had a sore throat (swollen glands, red tonsils) and conjunctivitis for 15 days. Both the rapid strep test and the comprehensive throat test came back negative. Also I had a blood test for mono which came back negative. The blood test also checked my white platelets which were normal. What virus do you think I have and when will it go away? I am a 38 years old female, 105 pounds, with otherwise great health.

My three year old daughter has had red spots in the back of her throat of about three weeks. There is no pain and was on antibiotics for a double ear infection and what they thought was strep. The strep test came back negative and she's done the antibiotics but the spots are still there. What is wrong?

I was diagnosed with strep throat less than a month ago and was on penicillin for 14 days. I never had a rapid strep test done. Last night the left side of my throat began to get scratchy/sore and I notice it once again is red and there are white/light yellow pustules (less than a couple weeks ago, but still there). Could I have been misdiagnosed as having strep and it really could be tonsil cancer? I have been tired and having slight left ear pain since all of this has been going on also.

Hello, 31 y/o female with 3 postitive rapid strep tests in past 2 1/2 months. Got latest batch lastnight and saw Dr. this morning who prescribed another antibiotic. Only the right tonsil is painfull swollen, adn has puss pockets all over. Left tonsil has what looks like a very smooth yellowish tonsil stone on it, not swollen. After last round of anti-b's, symptoms/pain went away, but left tonsil still looked deformed. What else could this be. No fever this time either.
