Patch test

What is Patch test?

A test of skin sensitiveness: a small piece of paper, tape, or a cup, wet with nonirritating diluted test fluid, is applied to skin of the upper back or upper outer arm and after 48 hours the covered is compared with the uncovered surface; an erythematous reaction with vesicles occurs if the substance causes contact allergy.

Hi there my mum has had knee replacements done in both knees at the same time 31/2 mnths ago. Ever since she has terrible itching esp around the knees and all over her body. Dr. XXXXXXX I accidentally closed my query. I don't know if you remember me but I am the one who had urticaria and did skin biopsy.. Your last response kindly told me to wait for my biopsy result. I need to get back to you. I had numerous Eosinophil, I kept asking my question to doctors here online, I got some good advise. I am afraid I would progress my allergy to other organ if I am not treated right with proper medication in the future. I need your opinion too because the choice of most affective medication would be the problem. So far I got this fact by testing. I have a very high total IgE, and I am Atopic. with environmental Allergy, such as dust mite, cats dog, cockroaches, weed and tree pollen and numerous Eosinophil in my skin. I was on oral Prednisone in December but my doctor needs to stop it in the middle of therapy because of loaded of side effect with hives on my neck, they said I am sensitive to it. Right after that, my doctor put me on Allegra and Tagamet. My hives has been more often, I stopped taking them since after the day before the biopsy on 4//4. I got reaction during the Patch testing on 4/2, then you gave me an good advice about. Thimerosal. The skin was taken for biopsy from the hives that I had during the patch testing. Food and medication allergy was not tested yet, but it seems to me that my diet has not been changed but I have no new urticaria since after the last episode on 4/2. Do you think patch testing would have caused my last hives? I also had a bad reaction such as headache, hives nausea breathing problem, tightness of chest while I was working on 3/6 and I was sick next day. My work is over night shift, closed winter environment with heat and not vent in the assisted housing set up, carpeted floor, old couch to lay down and rest, I do house cleaning (I had to sweep floor often including carpeted area) and personal hygiene along with passing medication to the resident. I feel like dust mites caused my bad allergic reaction that night. Again I want to ask you your recommendation of medication or other therapy I can have for desensitization. I know finding more allergen would help, button so far I got this test result and experience with my urticaria.

Brief Answer:
yes, patch test is the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Yes, the symptoms you had post patch test are due to the test itself. The test involves exposing you to considerable amount of allergen you are sensitive to. This releases chemical mediators which result in...

Area: Allergy Check.
Someone i know has an eye problem called CSR (Central Serous Reitonpathy)

They have been asked to undergo the test:
FFA(Fluorosciene) and ICG(Indocyanine green - i guess this is iodine) angiography XXXXXXX test. The XXXXXXX is inserted in blood for this test, post which eye pics are taken.

QUESTION:
How can they do a allergy test (for Fluorisciene AND ICG) before hand to determine if it is safe to undergo this test? This test is important for further investigation.

If this allergy test is not available, what is the next best thing to do? Hoping that a allergy test is possible or immunotherapy can really help in some way.

EARLIER EXPERIENCE
Following is earlier (and only) test experience with this test - couple of months ago:

A allergy patch test was done first.
FFA and ICG dyes were inserted just under skin - one for FFA other for ICG.
ICG XXXXXXX somehow seemed to be spread over couple of inches of radius.
Waited for 1 hour - there did not seem to be any adverse reaction to any of these in patch test.

Next (1 hour later),
FFA - Fluorosciene test was done (dye injected in veins) and eye pics taken.
After 10 minutes patient had light headedness, feeling of being unwell and warm sensation in all body. However all that went away in another 15 minutes. Not sure if this is normal.

No ICG test was performed. Don't know why - because they thought patient was feeling bit unwell for short while because of previous FFA test Or because ICG patch was spread out a bit under skin. Not sure.

The FFA (forearm) skin patch coloration went away in couple of days.
ICG (forearm) skin patch coloration took almost 8-9 days to go away. However no discomfort or any visible reaction.

Looking forward to your guidance in the matter.

I have a chronic skin condition and have been to 5 dermatologists and two allergists and no one knows what I have or how to treat it. Both my legs itch and my arms. Skin gets hardened around my ankles and bumpy on my arms. All the creams and lotions do not help. I have open sores on both legs and arms. The only thing that clears it all up is steroids and we know I can be on that for too long. I am female, 67 years old and have had this condition for almost 30 years. HELP! My query is to a dermatologist. My Name is Mrs. Nair, age- 38 years, female. My problem is listed below:

In 2006 April I started having hyper pigmentation on my face, neck and upper back. I consulted a specialist at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore and underwent blood test. As per the blood test my IGE (immunoglobin E) was 460, high above normal. Therefore, I underwent a patch test and the result of the patch test said I was allergic to PPD and some parabens. So my problem was diagnosed as hyper pigmentation due to contact dermatitis. I had used hair colour since February 2006 and as per this result I completely stopped using the same. I underwent chemical peeling, micro dermabrasion and laser treatment subsequently. My facial skin improved a bit, but not much. I had to shift to Egypt on official assignment and here again I consulted two dermatologists. They suggested a skin biopsy for Macular Amyloidosis and a biopsy was done. As per the biopsy report "bundles of collegen found in the dermis and slightly reactive to congo red staining. diagnosis: Amyloidosis."I do not have any itching on the skin except sometimes which i take as due to dryness. Can you please confirm what is my condition? Is there any treatment for this? I would really be grateful for your reply as I cannot consult a doctor from India face to face now as I am still in Egypt.

for the past few months my 2 year old has complained of itching on her arms and legs and around her back. there is no rash just lots of scratch marks where she has drawn blood. when she starts scratching an area hives might appear for a short time but then they go away. is this an allergy? she has had eczema in the past but this looks nothing like excema. there is no redness, blistering, raised area - nothing to associate with eczema.
