Helicobacter pylori

What is Helicobacter pylori?

A bacterial species that produces urease and causes gastritis and nearly all peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum. Infection with this organism also plays an etiologic role (probably along with dietary cofactors) in dysplasia and metaplasia of gastric mucosa, distal gastric adenocarcinoma, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the stomach.

Hi Doctor

Is there any way to determine at home for sure if I am H Pylori infected? I seem to have a constant white coating on my tongue and experience stomach bloating at times. I also had some throat problems and my ENT thought I had LPR. But I am really not sure and I wanted to avoid bouncing around between tests and medicines.

doctor1 MD

Hi
Welcome to HCM,
After going through your history if you are having Peptic ulcer disease, stomach malignancy in relative then you must check H.Pylori colonization.
H.Pylori not necessarily cause of disease in every case hence it is important to correlate clinically.
Many times the test is...

Hi There, My name is AAAA and I know that I have had a stomach ulcer for quite some time now. I tested postive for H Pylori and was treated for it, tested again and it came back that it was gone. However, I know for a fact I have a hole (there may be more than one) on the left side of my stomach. It hurts real badly, gets irritated easily and is very hard to eat. Last year I was hospitalized for having low electrolyghts and was forced a feeding tube ,something I believe to be the original cause of the ulcer. I requried that as I do suffer from Anorexia and Bulima as well. My doctor recenly retired and I haven t really gotten around to fiding a new one yet, what should I do about this? Thank you!

doctor1 MD

Hi there!
Stress is NOT the cause of your ulcer. You may have a genetic predisposition and of course your H. pylori bacterial infection caused some problems. If the h pylori is gone, and you still have an ulcer, you can take medications like a proton pump inhibitor to allow the ulcer to heal. If...

Hello I am taking metronidazol 500mg for an H. pylori infection in my stomach . I have been taking it for 1 week and for the past 3 days I have been getting headaches in the afternoon/evening and feeling intraocular pressure and a blackout feeling in my eyesight. Could this be related to the medication or something else?

doctor1 MD

Hello dear...
Though headache can be attributed as a side effect of Metronidazole intake, it is very less frequently seen & mostly non-serious.
The symptoms as mentioned in your post may be due to either due to fluctuations in your blood pressure levels (Hypotension/Hypertension) or due to...

52 - female, I started with a gurgling stomach a few months ago, and then burping, and finally woke one night to extreme acid reflux . I read about low stomach acid and tried HCL and it has been helping me digest my food. I have constipation , a slight pain under my rib cage, tested and had ultrasound for everything, and results were all good. So my naturopath believes pylori might be the culprit. I am very healthy otherwise, thin, and eat organic foods, in the summer I grow my veggies, I know longer drink coffee, tea, alcohol , or sugar. Does this sound like pylori causing my low stomach acid.? Help, thanks.!

I am now experiencing bright red rectal bleeding and small blood clots after bowel movement .
