gluten intolerant
hi doctor,

I'm a 25 year old Asian woman. I have had constipation and acne problems all my life. I eat a lot of veggies, fruits and wholegrain. I've been taking fibre supplements too but nothing helped. In the last few years I also have irregular period, but this time its my longest (5 months since my last period). I've seen doctors and did blood test, they think I have pcos, but the ultrasound showed I have no cyist. Lastly I've heard about gluten intolerant, and this can lead to all my problems, is it true gluten can cause constipation, acne and miss period? how do I know for sure that I am allergic to gluten?

Thank you.

Helena

I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and a lot of different food I eat is causing bloating. Food such as wheat, yeast, sugar, wine, and various fried food seem to be the culprits. I am taking a probiotic pill but that doesn't seem to change the result. What can I do in order to keep enjoying the above food without suffering any further bloating?

doctor1 MD

My doctor called and said my cholesterol was over three hundred and the triglycerides were high too. I have had irritable bowel with often seven days between bowel movements. Yesterday when I had the blood test it had been six days of no bowel movement. Could this be the cause of increased cholesterol? The irritable has been since I was in my twenties...I am now 64. She wants to add a new drug besides the trilipix I am on now. I am not sure she know how bad the irritable bowel is. Thank you for this query line. XXXXXXX

Hi...I am currently 6 weeks pregnant. Before I was pregnant I was having IBS type symptoms. I did have a colonoscopy 3 years ago and it came back clear. I was given Lexapro for anxiety which I am not taking anymore because of my pregnancy. I am 28 years old. The last 2 days I have had bowel movements 2-3 times a day, but they are hard and have lots of globs of white and yellowish mucus. I also have a lot of gas/bloating and have been really uncomfortable most of the day. Is this normal for pregnancy and/or IBS?

doctor1 MD

Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting your query. Pregnancy definitely has an effect on the IBS but precisely what the effect will be is a little difficult to predict.

Some women have a worsened contipation whereas others may have diarrhea. Constipation (passing stools of hard consistency) are much...

Is weight loss an early or late symptom of colon cancer. I am 30 and about 8 years ago I lost weight without a reason, but i have gained weight in the last 5 years or so. I have had some constipation with darker stools but it could be because I am eatting a lot of fat with no fiber. Anytime is weight loss usually an early or late symptom?
I have not been eatting really right. I eat a lot of fast foods and no fruits or veggies, but Like I said I lost weight 8 years ago, but since then I have been gaining weight and I have no loose of hunger, but I do get constipated sometimes. I am 30, and I was wondering if you think that this could have been from colon cancer 8 years ago with the weight loss?
Thanks and again I have been gaining weight and I always have an appetite

I was told that my extreme constipation, frequent urination, and occasional muscle aches (leaving me near immobile) was due to potassium deficiency, which made sense, my mother did, my brother has same condition. I started taking potassium supplements as well as a multivitamin and everything returned to normal, but now its starting again despite the potassium I take. Is it possible that the Klonopin and/or Paxil I'm now on could be interfering, though I was on these meds before the original outset of symptoms. I'm 32, Male. Other than a tonsillectomy, I've never had any serious health issues. Mental Health, OCD, Depression, some suicide attempts that included Tylenol PM - I was told in ER that I should never take acetaminophen again, due to possibility of liver damage.

I have a constipation problem since the last 12 months. I do not get proper fluid motions. I get proper motions only once in 2-3 days. In the time in between I feel very uneasy and heavy in the stomach. I have a normal diet consisting of :
Breakfast at 11:00 AM - Tea and either of poha/vermicilli/eggs
Lunch at 1:30 PM - 2 chappatis with subji
Dinner at 9:00 PM - Same as above.

I take non-veg - chicken and fish twice a week and I drink a lot of diet sodas. I take fruits infrequently and do not consume curds.
